Minimally Invasive Sacrocolpopexy

Women with symptoms from disorders of pelvic support may require surgery to correct the problem and relieve the discomfort.  The type of surgery that best serves such patients should be individualized to meet each woman's special needs.  Sacrocolpopexy is one of the most effective of these surgeries.  It involves the placement of a patch of material over the top of the weakened area.  The patch is then attached to the front of the tailbone, or sacrum.  Dr. Pizarro  normally uses a patch that does not dissolve, so that it will remain for the life of the patient and improve the strength of the repair.

This surgery repairs the weakness of the pelvic tissues and gives them new support.  For many years this surgery has required a large incision.  For patients who are candidates, Dr. Pizarro is able to offer the same procedure through a minimally invasive approach using very small incisions.
